Judge's Comments

"I was sad to see that in the short space of the time since I last judged this breed a vast diversity to type has crept into the breed. I was so disappointed in the overall quality of my entry, and it was not until the adult classes came in that I was lucky enough to find something to catch my eye. I fear like many breeds that suddenly become very popular deterioration sets in. The breeding and rearing of Giant breeds is a dedicated art, not for the faint hearted, breeds such as the Newfoundland require a balance diet, and the use of too much protein and not enough carbohydrates, in the hope of fast growth does not work and I feel that this is the reason for many of the existing problems in the breed on the day."
